Accessibility

Health records should be readable by everyone who owns them. We want Vitals to work for people who use screen readers, magnifiers, keyboard-only navigation or voice control, and for anyone who prefers less motion and more contrast.

The standard we aim for

We aim to conform to the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 at Level AA, across this website and the Vitals app. We are not there on every screen yet, and this page says where.

What we have done

  • Semantic HTML with a single heading hierarchy on every page
  • Everything reachable and operable from the keyboard, with a visible focus ring
  • A “skip to content” link as the first focusable element
  • Reduced motion respected. If your system asks for less motion, the animated DNA background is not rendered at all, scroll effects are switched off and transitions collapse to instant.
  • A dark theme you can switch to, with colour contrast checked in both themes
  • Text that scales with your browser settings; no fixed-pixel body text
  • Touch targets of at least 44 × 44 px on the app’s primary controls
  • Responsive layouts that reflow rather than scroll sideways on small screens
  • Page language declared as Australian English for screen readers

Known limitations

  • Trend charts in the app are drawn as graphics. You can pan them with the keyboard, but the underlying readings are not yet exposed as an accessible table beside every chart.
  • The animated DNA background on the home page is decorative and hidden from assistive technology; on small or low-powered devices it is replaced with a static image.
  • Uploaded PDFs are shown as the lab issued them. We cannot make a third party’s PDF accessible, but the values Vitals extracts from it are shown as real text.
  • Vitals has not yet had an independent accessibility audit.

Assistive technology

Vitals is built to work with current versions of common screen readers, screen magnifiers and voice-control software in current versions of Chrome, Safari, Firefox and Edge. If a combination you rely on does not work, we want to know.

Tell us when something does not work

Email info@staktech.com.au with the page or screen, what you were trying to do, and the browser and assistive technology you were using. We reply within 5 business days and treat accessibility bugs as bugs, not feature requests.

Continuous improvement

Accessibility is reviewed as part of building each new screen, not as a separate phase. This page is updated whenever a limitation above is fixed or a new one is found.
